Rob Ford’s fiscal platform includes city staff cuts, KPMG recommendations

Toronto Mayor Rob Ford unveiled part of his fiscal platform Thursday morning, saying he believes there are still millions of dollars of efficiencies to be found in the budget.

The mayor said he would like his motions put forward during the 2014 budget process to be implemented, including cutting expense budgets and cutting managerial staff at city hall.

He would also like to see recommendations put forward by the 2011 core service review undertaken by KPMG to be put into action.

That would include restructuring some of the city’s larger agencies, such as the TTC and the police services.

A report from the University of Toronto’s Munk School of Global Affairs on Wednesday found Toronto residents, on average, pay low property taxes, which has led to a major infrastructure funding shortfall.
