Power restored to 6,000 customers in east-end Toronto

Toronto Hydro crews worked overnight to restore power to around 6,000 customers in the city’s east end.

Power was restored just after 6 a.m. on Wednesday after being out for 18 hours.

However, the utility said a few power lines have to be turned on manually, so there may be some isolated cases where service has not yet been restored.

The outage was caused after contractors, who were fixing the city’s water system, damaged some hydro equipment at around noon on Tuesday.

The boundaries of the outage were Danforth Avenue to Queen Street East and Main Street to Luttrell Avenue.

The outage came on the hottest day of the year, with a high of 32.2 C recorded at Toronto Pearson on Tuesday and humidex values near 40.
