A Burlington man is accused of defrauding an elderly woman of $150,000, Halton regional police say.
Between June 11 and July 2, the victim was contacted by a man pretending to be a relative who wanted a loan. The man then arranged for her to be picked up by another person pretending to be a taxi driver.
On three occasions, the driver drove the woman to her bank and got her to withdraw a total of $150,000.
On Saturday, a police raid was conducted at a residence where evidence was seized.
Robert MacKinnon, 53, was charged with three counts of fraud over $5,000. He’s scheduled to appear in a Milton court on Oct. 15.
Police believe there are additional people involved in the alleged crime.
