Runaway parking enforcement car stopped by quick-thinking woman

A Toronto woman is being hailed a hero for preventing an accident after jumping into a moving parking patrol car to stop it from entering a busy downtown street.

It happened around 11 p.m. on Wednesday on Tranby Avenue, near Avenue and Davenport roads.

The woman had flagged down a parking patrol officer after someone had damaged her parked car. But as the officer was getting out of his vehicle he somehow tripped and his foot was run over by his moving vehicle.

The woman jumped into the moving car, steered it to the side of the road and hit the emergency brake before the car rolled out onto busy Avenue Road.

She called 911 and comforted the officer at the scene until paramedics and police arrived.

The officer suffered a crushed foot.

Police will put the woman, believed to be in her 20s, forward for a citation.
