Exclusive: Family member speaks out after gunshots fired into Scarborough home

A Scarborough family narrowly avoided tragedy overnight after a spray of bullets tore through their home.

Police were called to a scene on Cataraqui Crescent in the Warden Avenue and Danforth Road area around 1:30 a.m. on Tuesday.

Five people, including a mother and her three children, were inside the home at the time of the shooting.

Her 19-year-old son, who wishes to remain anonymous, said he was lying on the living room couch when one of the bullets almost killed him.

“It was very frightening,” he explained. “One of them went into a lamp by my head.”

He said he didn’t notice just how close the bullet came to hitting him until later on when he took a good look at the damage.

Seven bullet holes were found inside the home.

No one was injured in the shooting but the son says his mother, who was in the basement at the time of the shooting, is badly shaken.

“We just heard gunshots and my mom coming up the stairs saying, ‘What is that? What happened?’” he explained. “She’s afraid for her kids. I’m trying to keep it strong for everyone right now.”

Police won’t say if they think this was a targeted attack.

A dark-coloured vehicle was reportedly spotted leaving the scene.
