Police seek suspect in Oshawa poppy donation box theft

Durham police are searching for a male caught on video stealing money from a poppy donation box at a fast food restaurant in Oshawa.

The suspect, believed to be between 16 and 20 years old, was the lone patron in a Subway store on Rossland Road East on Sunday.

When an employee walked to the back of the store, police say the suspect grabbed the donation box and hid it in his jacket. He then sat at a table and removed the cash, leaving the empty box at the table.

Police say because the suspect may be under the age of 18, surveillance video cannot be shared with the public.

He’s described as a black male with short black hair. He was wearing a bright red jacket and black jeans with a white belt.
