New video shows subdued Rob Ford moments after city council stripped his powers

Moments after being stripped of his powers and blustering at city councillors that they had “just attacked Kuwait,” Rob Ford retired to his office to be serenaded by a young boy in a suit.

A video of the surreal moment last November was uploaded to YouTube on Tuesday by local musician and former special assistant to Mayor Rob Ford, Brendan Croskerry.

“Feel better?” the child asks Ford after his song.

“I feel amazing,” Ford tells him.

For a city accustomed to seeing Ford behaving badly on video, this is one of Ford’s more subdued moments caught on tape during his time in office.

City council’s decision to strip the mayor of his powers came after the Toronto Star reported they had a video showing him smoking crack cocaine, something Ford later admitted.

Ford seems relaxed as he gives the child a free tee-shirt and quips about his size.

“It’s gonna be a little big until you get a paunch on you like this,” Ford said, slapping his stomach.

The video seems to be a promotion of sorts for Croskerry’s upcoming EP.

Croskerry’s music plays over footage of the mayor taking the boy on a tour of his office.

Ford shows off photographs of himself fishing with Mississauga Mayor Hazel McCallion and his collection of editorial cartoons taking aim at him.

“They make fun of me all the time,” Ford said.

“When you get popular, trust me, you’re going to be a celebrity one day. And whatever you do they’re gonna make fun of you. You know what? Laugh at them. Don’t get mad. Because there’s always jealous people out there.”

At the end of the tour the boy and his caregiver walk out of the mayor’s office into a waiting throng of photographers and reporters.

Ford shakes his head and walks back inside.

Mayor-elect John Tory will be sworn in on Dec. 2.
