Man, 32, seriously injured after struck by SUV in Markham

A 32-year-old man was rushed to hospital with serious head injuries after being struck by an SUV in Markham.

Police say the incident occurred at Steeles Avenue and Townsend Road around 7:30 a.m. on Friday.

His injuries are not considered to be life-threatening.

The man may have been crossing the street at a light in a marked crossing when he was hit.

Police at the scene said it appears the man flew 15 metres through the air.

A Peel Region ambulance transported him to Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre because it was the closest to the area when the call came in.

Police had closed the westbound lanes of Steeles at the southbound Highway 404 off-ramp, but the area has since reopened.
