Police canvass High Park apartment after fatal stabbing

Toronto police are trying to restore calm to a High Park neighbourhood after an area resident was murdered.

Musa Yusuf, 52, died after being stabbed multiple times at his home on 100 High Park Ave. on Dec. 9.

On Sunday, police officers went door-to-door in his building reassuring residents that it was an isolated incident.

“By the end of today we expected people to start coming out of their doors, feeling that sense of security, playing in the areas where the children normally are, because they understand absolutely that the issue is closed,” said Supt. Heinz Kuck. “The homicide has been dealt with by an arrest.”

Police will also be asking residents if they have any information about the accused.

Guled Yusuf, the victim’s 22-year-old nephew, was arrested near the scene shortly after the stabbing and has been charged with second-degree murder.

Yusuf was the city’s 56th homicide of the year.
