Suspect sought after allegedly punching woman and her infant son

Toronto police are looking for a 23-year-old man, accused of assaulting a woman and her baby in Scarborough.

The incident occurred on at 11:30 p.m. on Monday, when police were called to a home near Neilson Road and Sheppard Avenue East.

Police say a man entered a bedroom where a woman in her 20s and her infant son where sleeping.

After an argument, in which she begged him to leave while holding her son, the man allegedly grabbed the mother by the throat and punched her several times.

The suspect also allegedly punched the infant on the side of his head, causing bruising and swelling.

Police have identified the suspect as Richard Russell, who is also accused of threatening to kill the woman.

Police say another person stopped the assault from continuing.

The suspect is black, six-feet one-inch, with a slim build, goatee, light-coloured jeans, black sweater and black shoes.
