Elderly man seriously injured after car crashes into hydro pole

An elderly man has been rushed to a trauma centre after a car crashed into a hydro pole near Markham Road and Eglinton Avenue East.

Emergency crews were called to the scene around 11:30 a.m. on Sunday.

Paramedics say the man suffered serious injuries and was transported to Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre.

Two other people in the vehicle sustained minor injuries and were taken to a local hospital.

Toronto Hydro says the crash has caused a power outage in the area, affecting about 800 customers. Power was fully restored just before 7 p.m.

Markham Road was closed southbound from Lawrence Avenue while police conducted their investigation, but has since reopened.
