Elton John marries longtime partner David Furnish

Legendary British musician Elton John has married his longtime partner David Furnish and posted a string of photos on social media chronicling the lavish event on Sunday.

One of the first photos to appear on the singer’s Instagram page showed a view of a garden and had the caption, “Good morning! Nice day for a wedding”.

This was shortly followed by a post appearing to show that the singer had turned his civil partnership to David Furnish into a marriage.

The entertainer and Furnish are seen sitting at a table with a sheet of paper in front of them, with the caption, “That’s the legal bit done. Now on to the ceremony!”

Musician Ed Sheeran, David and Victoria Beckham, actor Hugh Grant and singer Lulu were all among a swathe of guests who attended John’s Berkshire estate, in England’s south east, to celebrate the occasion.

Members of the media were seen gathering outside the gates of the property, waiting for the stars to arrive for Elton’s big day.

The Rocket Man and Candle in the Wind singer announced the news of his marriage through his website on Saturday, with an invitation decorated with red roses.

That theme continued at the wedding ceremony, with one of John’s Instagram photos showing a large bowl of roses on display.

Another photo shows the couple exchanging vows and the singer also showed off what was on the menu, with wild mushroom soup, beef short rib and caramelised onion pie and warm chocolate pudding all available for his guests.

John and Furnish have been together since 1993 and became civil partners in 2005.

It became legal for same-sex marriage in England and Wales in March of this year.

The 52 year-old Furnish is a former advertising executive and currently a filmmaker.

The pair have two sons, Zachary and Elijah Furnish-John, who were born via a surrogate.
