A 31-year-old man faces charges in connection with an explosion at an alleged meth lab inside a Brampton apartment.

Peel regional police were called to the building at Silver Maple Court, near Queen Street East and Dixie Road, around 10 p.m. on Saturday.

One person was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Gurjeet Kajla, of Brampton, has been charged with mischief endangering life and production of a controlled substance methamphetamine.

“He was arrested in the early morning hours after being interviewed,” Const. Lilly Fitzpatrick said.

Fitzpatrick said the suspect is expected to appear in court for a bail hearing on Sunday.

Police initially thought it might have been a gas explosion; however, the Ontario Fire Marshal, Peel police’s major drugs and vice unit and Brampton Fire officials determined that drugs were involved.

The 16th floor of the building was evacuated on Sunday. Residents were able to return early on Monday morning.
