Toronto Police are investigating after shots were fired while plainclothes officers were conducting an investigation in the Jane Street and Driftwood Avenue area of North York on Tuesday night around 10 p.m.
There are no reported injuries.
“The officers were conducting an unrelated investigation…and the shots were fired in the area where the officers were conducting that investigation,” said Sgt. Dave Haynes.
The incident was initially reported as shots fired at police, but Sgt. Haynes later said that wasn’t yet determined.
“We don’t have any information right now to believe that there’s anything related to the shots being fired at the officers, they just happened to be in the area at the time conducting the investigation.”
The area was flooded with officers and the York Regional police helicopter was utilized in the search for suspects.
Sgt. Haynes said police are searching for three male suspects. He didn’t provide descriptions.
“The suspects managed to evade police and the investigation is ongoing,” he said.
