Teen girl dies after Ajax car crash

Durham police are investigating whether speed and driver inexperience contributed to a car crash in Ajax that killed a 17-year-old girl.

The teen was airlifted to a hospital on Sunday where she later died of her injuries.

Her Toyota collided with a Nissan around 4:30 p.m. on Harwood Avenue North, south of Taunton Road West.

The driver of the Nissan and two passengers suffered minor injuries.

Witnesses reported seeing the Toyota travelling northbound on Harwood at a high speed.

The driver lost control of the car, crossing the centre line and crashing into the Nissan before colliding with a hydro pole, police said in a news release.
