Canadian arrested in drowning of boy, 4, in St. Lucia

A Canadian has been arrested after a young boy drowned while on a kite surfing ride in St. Lucia, local police said.

Terrel Joshua Elibox, 4, was being given a ride by a kite surfer at Bois Chadon beach in Vieux Fort on Sunday when he fell off and went under the water.

A man was on shore with the child’s grandmother at the time and spoke with HTS St. Lucia, a local TV tation.

“We heard a cry, somebody saying ‘look the man took the child and went into the ocean and they fell into the ocean…’ We all left what we were doing and ran.”

Police said they found his body nearby on Coconut Bay Beach around 6 a.m. local time on Tuesday.

HTS reports that the man allegedly took the boy against the wishes of his family.

Foreign Affairs told CityNews it’s aware that a Canadian has been detained but would not disclose any more details, citing privacy concerns.

There is no word on charges.
