Carley Allison’s friends, family gathering to remember ‘tenacious’ teen

The friends and family of Carley Allison are preparing to honour her life this Easter weekend and keep her beautiful voice heard.

The tenacious teen captured the hearts of many around the world during her battle with a rare throat cancer.

At the age of 19, she shared her songs on YouTube and was an inspiration for many as she continued to sing after an emergency tracheotomy threatened to take her voice.

“For her to have a Trach in her throat just meant she was going to sing anyways and put it up like normal,” Dan Allison, her cousin, said.

Allison also sang the anthems for the Toronto Maple Leafs and used her popularity to raise thousands of dollars for cancer research.

The Maple Leafs held for a moment of silence in her honour at Tuesday night’s game and Toronto city council also paused for a moment.

Her cousin said she asked anybody who was thinking of giving her flowers to donate early on.

The family announced on Tuesday that she passed away at Princess Margaret Hospital.

“She’s leaving a legacy,” Allison said.

Tomorrow will be the celebration of her life open to the public after a private service.

It will take place at Millennium Gardens Banquet Hall, 20 Polonia Avenue in Brampton starting at 6:30 p.m. The night will be filled with music, singing and dancing, something her family believes is exactly what Allison would want.
