Ikea recalls some crib mattresses due to safety concerns
Ikea Canada has issued a precautionary recall of a brand of crib mattresses due to safety issues.
The Sultan brand hasn’t been sold in Canada since August 2010, but Ikea is urging any customers who have purchased one in the past to measure the gap between the mattress and crib to ensure the gap isn’t more than three centimetres.
There have been no reported injuries in Canada

How to measure gap, as per recall notice:
- Let new mattresses air for 72 hours after unpacking. It takes three to four days for the mattress to assume its proper shape and volume.
- Remove all bedding, for example fitted sheets.
- Check any gap using a measuring tape.
- There should not be a gap greater than three centimetres when the mattress is pushed firmly against any side of the crib
- If customers do not have a gap greater than three centimetres between mattress and crib ends, there is no need for action.
