Mayor Tory announces planned improvements to TTC bus, streetcar service

More improvements are on the way for public transit in Toronto.

Mayor John Tory, along with TTC chair Josh Colle, announced service enhancements on Sunday to 61 bus and streetcar routes across the city starting in September.

Tory says most of this is restoration of service cut by the previous administration and would be funded under a $90 million investment in transit approved in the 2015 city budget.

“These service improvements are the type of sensible and caring investments expected by Toronto residents. We need a reliable transit system so people can get to work on time and get home faster to spend more time with their families,” Tory said in a release. “The ability to move in this city is fundamental to economic opportunity, to an active family and personal life and to uniting a city.”

The following service changes are being recommended to the TTC Board to improve and expand the overnight ‘Blue Night’ network:

  • 304 King – new route from Dundas West Stn-Broadview Stn. Service on Roncesvalles replaces 335 Jane route; service on Broadview replaces 325 Don Mills route
  • 302 Kingston Rd-McCowan – Change route to operate from Kingston Rd to Steeles via Kingston Rd; instead of via Danforth Rd
  • 354 Lawrence East – Change route to operate from Eglinton Stn to Starspray; instead of Eglinton Stn to UofT Scarborough
  • 352 Lawrence West – Extend route in the west from Royal York Rd to Pearson Airport and in the east from Yonge St to Sunnybrook Hospital
  • 365 Parliament – New route from Castle Frank Stn to Esplanade
  • 312 St Clair-Junction – Change route to operate to Dundas West Stn via Dundas, replacing 335 Jane route
  • 384 Sheppard West – New route from Sheppard-Yonge Stn to Weston Rd
  • 317 Spadina – New route from Spadina Stn to Union Stn
  • 353 Steeles – Extend route in the west from Yonge St to York University and in the east from Markham Rd to Staines Rd/Finch Ave
  • 395 York Mills – Change route to operate from York Mills Stn to Meadowvale; instead of York Mills Stn to Finch

  • 100 Flemingdon Park – new

The improvements are subject to approval by the TTC board, which will be presented with the plan on Wednesday. If approved, the service changes would start on Sept. 6 and the annual cost would be $5.5 million.

Tory made the announcement outside a bus shelter at Kennedy Road and Glamorgan Avenue in Scarborough.
