Mayor Tory urging positivity for Pride Week and Pan Am Games

By News Staff

Mayor John Tory is taking Pride Week by the hand, while criticizing those who are being negative about Toronto 2015 Pan Am and Parapan Am Games.

In a live interview at the 680 NEWS studio on Thursday morning, Tory told political affairs specialist John Stall he has supported Pride for years and that it is a “celebration of who we are.”

“First of all, it is loads of fun, so anybody who has misapprehensions about what it is — it’s just fun. It’s a celebration of who we are and how we live here,” Tory said.

“Nobody should have any hangups about it. To me, I’m shocked it’s even newsworthy that the mayor would attend […] you’re the mayor of the whole city and this is one of our biggest celebrations, if not the biggest.”

Tory also said he thinks the 2015 Toronto Pan Am Games will be a great event.

“What is it about this place we live in here?,” Tory said. “We’ve got to get positive, this is going to be a great event.”

“Let’s just say Toronto is going to put on a great show, instead of bemoaning things.”

Referring to airborne traffic reporter Darryl Dahmer, Tory said 680 NEWS has the “best traffic reporter in the world and he’s going to help keep it moving.”

Tory said the “negative narrative” the city has built up is contributing to the pessimism.
