The cost of parking at a number of Toronto’s busiest Green P garages and surface lots is set to go up.
Toronto Parking Authority president Lorne Persiko said a select number of parking locations were chosen for the fee hike, based on use.
“We cater to short-term parkers … who visit businesses and stores,” Persiko told 680 News. “If we find a lot is getting too busy in the middle of the day, we look at increasing the all-day rate or the monthly rate.”
Depending on the location, the rise in fees might be applied to the half-hour, daily, or monthly rate, or some combination thereof.
The half-hourly rate for parking at city hall, for instance, will be raised by 25 cents to a total of $2.75, and the monthly rate will go from $270 to $300. Meanwhile, the daily parking rate at the Kensington Market Green P garage will go from $5.50 to $6.00, and the monthly rate will go from $135 to $145.
The raise in parking prices was approved at a July 30 public meeting of the Toronto Parking Authority.
