Glass falls from top of Four Seasons Hotel in Yorkville, injuring two

Two people suffered minor injuries after broken glass from a penthouse window rained down at the Four Seasons Hotel in Yorkville on Thursday afternoon.

The immediate area around 60 Yorkville Avenue was closed to traffic and pedestrians for several hours, but has since reopened.

The hotel confirmed that a south-facing window broke at around 1:15 p.m., sending shards of glass down onto Yorkville Avenue and Bay Street.

“There were two minor injuries and EMS was contacted to assist,” the hotel confirmed in a statement.

“The safety and security of our guests and neighbours remains of utmost importance to us. We take this matter very seriously and are working diligently to resolve the matter as quickly as possible in cooperation with the local authorities and our engineering specialists.”

The Yorkville area is currently teeming with locals, tourists, and members of the film industry for the Toronto International Film Festival.

Carrie Kirkman was having lunch nearby when the glass started falling.

“We thought it had started to hail because all of these white chips started raining down and then we realized obviously it’s not hail. And then larger chunks came down. They were hitting us, and it hurt,” she said.

“All of a sudden another sheet came down and was shattering all around us.”

“There was a gentleman, whose head was bleeding, it was pretty unsettling.”
