Woman dead, man facing impaired driving charges after Hwy. 400 crash

A 60-year-old Mississauga woman is dead and three other people were injured after a two-vehicle collision on Highway 400 early Sunday morning.

The OPP said one vehicle rear-ended another vehicle in the southbound lanes of Highway 400 near Finch Avenue West around 2 a.m.

There were a total of four people in the vehicle that was rear-ended and they were all sent to hospital.

Among them was the 60-year-old woman, identified as Arti Vyas, who succumbed to her injuries in hospital.

An off-duty paramedic, on his way home from his own wedding, came across the crash and helped tend to the injured.

Ryan War told CityNews the occupants of the vehicle were “very panicked.”

“They didn’t know what was going on or if they were going to be OK,” War said.

Police say the driver of the other car, Jonathan Ian Brown, 25, of Brampton, is facing multiple charges including impaired driving causing death, and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

A bail hearing was scheduled to be held later Sunday in Newmarket.

Police are continuing to investigate.

Southbound 400 from Highway 7 to Highway 407 was closed but re-opened around 7:30 a.m.
