The Toronto Zoo says a newborn polar bear cub has died.

Two cubs were born on Nov. 11 but the zoo says one of the cubs passed away within the first 24 hours. The other cub is in intensive care.

Zoo officials say their mom Aurora demonstrated good maternal instincts but didn’t appear to produce any milk to feed the cubs.

Staff will feed the surviving cub a special milk formula.

The zoo says the surviving cub is not visible to the public.
