The Toronto District School Board is looking at ways to cut more than 100 teaching positions.

The Toronto Star reports the school board trustees are reviewing a report which outlines several proposals, including 38 fewer elementary teachers, 64 fewer high school teachers and 45 fewer early childhood educators working in full-day kindergarten classrooms.

The cuts are being considered in the face of a falling enrollment with about 2,400 fewer students in class this year than expected.

The head of the budget committee tells the newspaper the reduction in positions will likely come through attrition, and not layoffs.
