Comedian Jon Stewart steps in to save runaway bull in New York City

By News Staff

New York City is used to hearing about bears and bulls. But an actual bull on the loose, on April Fools Day, it seemed to good to be true.

Yet, authorities were called to investigate reports an escaped black and white Angus bull cow was seen racing down Liberty Avenue near 160th street in Queens, N.Y.

The cow, which had apparently escaped from a nearby holding pen where livestock are taken before being slaughtered, eventually made its way to York College, where it was captured on video.

Within a half hour, police managed to corral the bull and it looked to be the end of the line for the feisty bovine.

But that’s where the story takes another twist.

After the bull was taken to the Animal Care Centers of NYC in Brooklyn, staff attempted to come up with enough money to buy the animal and spare it from slaughter. In stepped comedian Jon Stewart and his wife, who bought the bull and had it shipped to a farm sanctuary in upstate New York, where he will live out his remaining days in greener pastures.

Prior to leaving for his new home, Stewart christened the bull cow Frank Lee, after Frank Lee Morris who escaped from Alcatraz in 1962.
