New raccoon-resistant green bins are due to start rolling out to people in Scarborough mid-week and will be more than twice the size of the old ones.
Production began in April, with 1,000 bins coming off the line every day.
Scarborough will be the first borough to get the new bins followed by Etobicoke and then North York.
Distribution is expected to continue until late next year.
