Five million bees stolen in Quebec, two suspects arrested

By The Canadian Press

Two men have been arrested in the theft of five million bees in Quebec.

Provincial police say a 43-year-old suspect surrendered to police on Friday in Joliette, about 50 kilometres north of Montreal.

He will appear in court on Monday.

Earlier this week, the suspect’s 36-year-old brother was also arrested and arraigned in connection with the theft.

Police suspect the brother also made off with 180 hives belonging to a man named Jean-Marc Labonte, who estimated the value of everything stolen at $200,000.

The bees have been missing since late last month and have not yet been found.
