Progress in the making: Bike lanes being installed on Bloor

It is going to be a tight squeeze for traffic and cyclists as work begins Tuesday to install the new separated bicycle lanes along a section of Bloor Street West.
During the construction, Bloor from Shaw Street to Avenue Road will be reduced to one lane in each direction.
All on-street parking in the area has been removed and will remain that way for the first few days of construction.
While some cyclists had to pedal in live lanes of traffic, others were forced onto the sidewalks.
The installation work is expected to take around two weeks. The estimated cost of the project is around $500,000.

In May, city council approved a pilot project to install separated bike lanes along a 2.6-kilometre stretch of Bloor between Shaw and Avenue.
The pilot project will go for one year before it is reassessed in the fall of 2017. At that time it will be determined if the bike lanes will be modified, made permanent or removed.
