Baby boom continues at Toronto Zoo: Alice the camel gives birth

Alice the camel has some company at the Toronto Zoo.
The 20-year-old gave birth to a male calf on Aug. 23 after a 13-month gestation period, which is average for a Bactrian camel.
The two-hump species of camel is considered rare. There are fewer than a thousand in the wild and the population is decreasing.
Zookeepers are currently bottle feeding baby with mother’s milk.
They say although he appears to be healthy and feeding well, the first 30 days are critical and staff will continue to “closely monitor Alice and the calf during this time.”
The calf isn’t formally on display yet. However, the zoo says visitors might catch a glimpse since he’s given access to the paddock for exercise periodically and to hang out with his parents.
