An employee was killed inside a Purolator facility in Etobicoke on Tuesday.

Purolator confirmed the death to CityNews & 680 News on Wednesday.

The man was allegedly trying to clear a jam in the conveyor belt before he was crushed inside, an anonymous tipster told CityNews.

Toronto police say they were called to the area before 6 a.m. and an unconscious man was transported to hospital. He was later pronounced dead in hospital.

The man’s name has not been released.

Purolator’s employee community Facebook group posted a statement on the death on their page. It reads in part: “This morning one of our brothers at the Ontario hub was killed after being caught up in a conveyor belt. Our deepest condolences to his family and friends.”

According to commenters and a link source by the group, the victim was about 50 years old.
