A four-year-old girl who was at the centre of an Amber Alert on Friday morning has been found safe.

Christina Nguyen was in the car with the engine running while her parents went back inside to retrieve her younger sister. When they came back out, the car – and Christina – were gone.

The vehicle was stolen just after 6 a.m. from the Jane Street and Lawrence Avenue area, Toronto police said.

Christina was found by a passerby around 9:30 a.m. She appears to be OK, Toronto police said.

She was found inside the car, which was left running, at Rosemount Avenue and Weston Road. That’s a very short distance from her home, less than two kilometres away.

“Someone walking by found the car. It’s running. She’s inside,” Det. Ranbir Dhillon told reporters after the girl was found. “Our officers got on scene and confirmed that … she’s OK.”

Around 10 a.m. the girl was reunited with her parents, who brought her home shortly thereafter. Watch the video below or click here.

Dhillon said police still have no information on the suspect who made off with the vehicle, including age, gender and whether or not there’s a connection to the family.

Clarification: Toronto police released the name of the child, but later said that was an error and her name should not have been released. Once the Amber Alert was issued, her name and photo were released.
