Marijuana activists Marc and Jodie Emery were arrested at Pearson International Airport this week and face multiple drug-related offences. A day later, seven of their Cannabis Culture dispensaries in Toronto, Hamilton and Vancouver were raided.
But aside from criminal charges, the City of Toronto has laid 363 charges under the Planning Act as of Feb. 3. Here’s how the numbers break down.
Dispensaries investigated: 157
Dispensaries closed: 99
Dispensaries still operating pending trial: 45
Total charges to date: 363
Property owners charged: 63
Business owners charged: 159
Employees charged: 141
Charges resolved in court: 45
Guilty pleas: 27
Total fines levied: $52,150 (not including provincial victim surcharge)
Dollar range of fines: $1,000 to $2,000
