Homicide detectives are investigating after a 24-year-old man was found dead in a townhouse complex on in Scarborough.
Detectives said gunshots were heard around 1:30 a.m. on Saturday morning, but police couldn’t find the victim at the time. His body was discovered hours later at around 8 a.m by a neighbourhood resident.
Family and friends have identified the victim as Samatar Farah.
“I’ll be the first to say he was not involved in anything for those who think that of him,” said Farah’s friend Gure Omar. “He was just a pure, good person, innocent, loving.
“Every time you see him he’d always hug you. He didn’t deserve this. For those who think he lived this lifestyle, that’s not the lifestyle he lived.”
Another friend said Samatar was always happy.
“He’s just honestly one of the greatest guys you could possibly meet,” the friend said. “He’s such a nice guy. Never gets angry.”
Detectives said the Farrah was targeted and there is no wider danger to the public. They are looking for two suspects who fled on foot.
Officers are examining security footage from the area with the cooperation of Toronto Community Housing.
A gofundme page has been set up by friends of Farah to help the family pay for the funeral costs.
This latest incident comes on the heels of another shooting in the same neighbourhood on Thursday, with one victim in serious condition in hospital.
Anyone with information is being asked to contact police.
