A fire has gutted two homes near Queen Street and Carlaw Avenue.
The fire began in a semi-detached home on Booth Avenue around 3:35 a.m. on Tuesday. That home was under construction, Toronto Fire platoon chief Kevin Shaw said.
The fire had spread to the other half of the semi. Firefighters helped the two people in that home escape, and they were not hurt.
Firefighters also evacuated the two next-door homes as a precaution.
“The original building, the roof has collapsed,” Shaw said. Residents are not being allowed back in “just for the danger of collapse. The integrity of the walls has been compromised,” Shaw said.
At the height of the fire, 12 trucks and 45 firefighters were on scene.
The cause of the fire and the cost of the damage are not yet known.
Correction: Initially, CityNews reported that the two people were in the home that was under construction. They were in the other half of the semi.
