A list of the measures Toronto is taking in response to overdose deaths

TORONTO – The City of Toronto announced several measures Thursday in response to a spike in suspected opioid-related deaths in recent weeks. Here is a list of what the city says it is doing:

— Speeding up the opening of supervised injection sites

— Asking Toronto police to consider the targeted distribution of opioid overdose antidote naloxone to some officers

— Exploring emergency bulk purchasing of naloxone for quicker distribution to all necessary personnel

— Committing to better data sharing about overdose information and tracking whether naloxone has been used at calls where paramedics have been dispatched

— Increasing public education
