The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has charged a Toronto police officer with assault stemming from a 2015 arrest.

In a release, the SIU said police responded to a 911 call in the Maple Leaf Drive and Jane Street area of North York just after midnight on Nov. 30, 2015.

Police arrested a man who was sitting in a taxi in front of 300 Queen’s Dr. During the arrest, the man sustained serious injuries.

The SIU was only notified of the incident 11 months later, on Oct. 11, 2016, and started an investigation.

On Wednesday, the SIU announced Const. Joseph Dropuljic has been charged with one count of assault.

He is scheduled to appear in a Toronto court on Sept. 7.
