A toddler is in hospital with life-threatening injuries after a two-vehicle crash on Highway 404 in Aurora.

A four-year-old boy was also taken to hospital. He was treated for a broken leg and released from hospital.

The crash happened just south of Aurora Road around 12:09 a.m. on Thursday.

Both vehicles were on the northbound side of the highway when one driver rear-ended the other, Ontario provincial police said. One of the vehicles may have been stopped at the time of the crash. It’s not known if that vehicle was in a live lane, a merge lane or on the shoulder.

The highway has since reopened.

There’s no word yet on charges.
