Police say suspicious man approached girl, 8, at Pickering supermarket

Durham regional police say they are investigating after a man approached an eight-year-old girl at a supermarket in Pickering and tried to lure her to his car with the promise of candy.

It happened on Wednesday at around 6:55 p.m. at the Blue Sky Supermarket near Highway 401 and Pickering Parkway.

Police say the girl was in the candy aisle when a man her approached her while her mother shopping in the next aisle over.

The man allegedly asked the girl if she wanted candy and asked her to come to his car. The girl ran back to her mother.

The suspicious male is described as a light-skinned black male in his teen. He’s about six-feet tall with a thin build and was wearing a black baseball hat, grey t-shirt and shorts with black boots.

Police are trying to identify the man. If you witnessed the incident or know anything, call Durham regional police.
