A man in his 20s was shot and killed in North York on Thursday evening.
Toronto police said it happened around 5:20 p.m. outside North York Sheridan Mall at Wilson Avenue and Jane Street.
Police say the victim had just arrived at the mall when he was approached by four individuals with at least two of them opening fire against him. One of the suspects continued to chase the victim into the mall with multiple gunshots being fired inside.
Police say the victim was struck several times and pronounced dead on the scene.
He has been identified as Jovane Clarke, 22, of Toronto.
“I was in the dentist office … and before my appointment had even started, I was just sitting there and heard this bang, bang, bang, bang, and it seemed so unreal,” Karen Bijai, an eyewitness at the time of the shooting, said.
“Everybody who was in that general vicinity they herded into the dental office and they got us all right into the very back room … It was terrifying because the guy who actually witnessed it was sitting right there and he was shaking.”
Police have released a limited description of four suspects; all males, black, in their mid-20s, wearing dark clothes and masks.
“I’ve been coming here to this mall for over 30 years… I’ve never been afraid to be around here,” Bijai said. “This has really shook me up.”
