1 man in custody after Hwy. 407 and Hwy. 403 police chase

By News Staff

One man is in custody and facing a number of charges after a chase that took officers along Highway 407 and Highway 403.

Ontario Provincial Police say they were conducting a ride check program in Brant County around 3:30 a.m. on Friday when a vehicle they had pulled over suddenly took off just as officers were preparing to charge the driver with impaired driving.

Rather than engage in a high speed pursuit, provincial police deployed the StarChase Pursuit Management Technology system and tracked the vehicle for two hours as it made its way along Highway 403, through the city of Hamilton, along the QEW and up Highway 407, ultimately ending up at Walkers Line and 407 in Burlington.

Police say a couple of OPP vehicles were rammed in the process with officers suffering minor injuries.

A 34-year-old man is facing charges of impaired driving, dangerous driving and failing to stop for police.

Two other female occupants in the car were also detained but they are not facing any charges at this time.

Correction: An earlier version of this story said two people were facing charges.
