1 dead in Mississauga crash, driver arrested for impaired driving

Peel police are investigating a suspected drunk driving crash in Mississauga that left one man dead and another in hospital with serious injuries.

Two vehicles, an SUV and a BMW car, were involved in the crash.

Police were called to Mavis and Bristol roads, near Eglinton Avenue West, around 1:15 a.m. on Thursday.

It appears the driver of the BMW was travelling at a high speed with it hit the SUV. The SUV flipped over and caught on fire.

A 66-year-old man, a passenger in the SUV, died at the scene. The driver, a 58-year-old man, was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Police say the driver of the BMW was taken to hospital with minor injuries. Azar Sheikh, 31, is now charged with impaired operation causing death, impaired operation causing bodily harm, and possession of a controlled substance.

Correction: An earlier version of this story said the driver of the SUV had died. Police later said it was the passenger.
