‘Cosmetic surgeon’ Dr. Kitty only has Grade 12 education: police

The 19-year-old woman who reportedly performed cosmetic surgery in a home basement only has a Grade 12 level education, according to police.

Jingyi Wang, who went by the name Dr. Kitty, was released on $4000 bail after she was arrested and charged with aggravated assault on Saturday.

The charges stemmed from a complaint made by a 20-year-old woman who allegedly received face filling injections from Wang.

The victim reportedly saw an advertisement for cosmetic surgeries inside a Chinese restaurant near Yonge Street and Finch Avenue. Police say her first consultation with Wang was at a store-front salon and subsequent treatments were performed in the basement of a North York home.

CityNews visited the residence, but Wang was not home. There are several security cameras on the property and a long-time neighbour told CityNews the group of young people moved into the home recently and people visit often. Three young men who appeared to also live there were reluctant to divulge any information, but one of them said he did not believe Wang actually performed any procedures.

Police say the victim realized something was wrong when she wasn’t healing properly and the constant pain made her think something was “broken in her face.” Within a few weeks, the woman developed an infection and needed corrective surgery from a licensed plastic surgeon in Toronto.

Kavita Suri, the owner of Infuse Med Spa in Toronto, says the repercussions of not going to a licensed professional can be very serious. “Complications that can potentially happen when it’s not administered correctly by someone who is not fully trained or licensed is bruising or someone can lose their life,” she said.

Toronto Police Const. Jennifer Sidhu told CityNews that cases like these are on the rise.

“This unlicensed medical clinic, it’s becoming more common. Not in this instance but others… where parties are conducted in people’s home where there is wine and cheese going on in the next room,” she said. “If you are attending always make sure you check about licensed doctors and if it’s too good of a deal to be true, it probably is.”

Police are asking other victims and anyone who might have had a procedure done in a home to come forward and speak to police. They also advise contacting their local doctor for any corrective measures or medical assistance.

Jingyi Wang is due back in court on Nov. 9th.
