Canada, Mexico reject U.S. NAFTA demands: reports

Canada and Mexico have rejected the proposals brought forth by the United States in round four of the NAFTA trade talks, sources tell CNBC and Bloomberg.

The proposals reportedly revolve around Canadian dairy, eggs and poultry along with protections for the U.S. auto industry. The U.S. is also pushing for forced renegotiations every five years.

However, Parliament Hill reporter Cormac Mac Sweeney said he’s hearing a different tone and language from a Canadian source with knowledge of the talks, who tell him Canada disagrees with some proposals but they are not rejecting everything and progress is being made.

Both Justin Trudeau and Enrique Peña Nieto have already vowed to remain at the table and continue discussions, but it’s not clear what U.S. President Donald Trump might say, as he has threatened to tear up the deal

The next round of negotiations should take place in Mexico in early November.
