Police investigating King West gun scare as a mischief

A chaotic police scene in downtown Toronto Thursday that shut down most of the busy core is now being investigated as a mischief.

Police responded to a call about a person with a gun around 1 p.m.

A large team of officers, including the Emergency Task Force, responded to a building near King Street West and Peter Street, east of Spadina Avenue. The marijuana store, 365 Dispensary, was the location of the call.

Police say they treated the incident as real and followed emergency protocol, but after entering the building and they found no one with a gun.

“(The call) has been proven not to be a legitimate call,” said Const. Allyson Douglas-Cook with Toronto Police. “We will be looking into that. Right now, the focus is on the occupants of that establishment, and their safety was our number one concern.”

Businesses in the area were also impacted with customers not allowed through the yellow tape for almost an entire afternoon.

“(I lost) in the range of $500 on this side and maybe $1,000 on the retail side, the entrance was all blocked off,” said Tyler Wolff who owns a King Street pop-up shop.

The dispensary was once part of the Cannabis Culture franchise, but for the last six to seven months it’s been operating as the 365 Dispensary. It’s not known if the business was operating Thursday, but it was business as usual on Friday.
