Gunman sought after firing into car with child inside

Toronto police are seeking a suspect who they say fired a barrage of bullets at car while a child under the age of five was inside.

Police say the child narrowly missed being struck when the shots were fired in the Pape and Withrow Avenues area at around 9 p.m. on Monday night.

A 21-year-old man who was also inside the car was hit several times and suffered life-threatening injuries. His condition has since been upgraded to stable.

According to police, the man was sitting in his car with the child when a suspect walked up and fired at least four shots.

Police are looking for a black male suspect, described as five-foot-eight inches tall. He was last seen wearing a dark hoodie and a red hat. Police believe he is a teenager.

He was last seen fleeing southbound on Pape Avenue in a silver SUV with tinted windows.
