Hamilton police are looking for two suspects after a man was fatally shot on Saturday night.
The incident occurred at around 9 p.m. in the Main Street and Wentworth Street area.
Police say the man and his friend tried to intervene in a fight between the two suspects and another man. The 19-year-old was shot during the altercation. He was taken to hospital but died from his injuries.
The victim has been identified as 19-year-old Yosif Al-Hasnawi of Hamilton, who police say was a student in the medical sciences program at Brock University and was studying to become a doctor one day.
“We are heartbroken,” read a tweet from Brock University’s Department of Polical Science after learning of Al-Hasnawi’s death.
Police are searching for two suspects, described as white men in their 20s.
This is Hamilton’s ninth homicide of the year.
