FedEx customer on the hook for butterflies that died due to shipping delays

A Mississauga business owner is learning the limits of FedEx’s money-back guarantee.

Prince Mansoor, who provides educational kits and ceremonial butterflies through his company Monarch Butterflies, contacted CityNews after shipments of his insects turned up dead.

He said he regularly orders live butterflies from Montreal, which are supposed to be shipped overnight by FedEx to keep the insects alive. But he claims because of constant delays, thousands have turned up dead.

Mansoor ordered some to be shipped last week Tuesday, and they arrived eight days later, dead.

He said FedEx hasn’t been of much help. While they refunded his insurance and other money due to the delays, they won’t cover the cost of the butterflies and caterpillars or the lost business.

“I had to refund all the customers for all the orders that were placed months in advance,” said Mansoor. “They’ve been refunded, but FedEx did not refund [me for] those orders.”

Mansoor has had to give thousands of dollars back to customers who ordered butterflies for funerals and weddings.

“At FedEx, our number one focus is delivering reliable service and a great experience to every one of our customers,” spokesman Adrian Grundy said in an email.

“While we do not discuss specific details involving our customers, we are aware of Mr. Monsoor’s concerns and we are investigating.”
