Major track issues on the Lakeshore East GO train line that left passengers waiting in the snow Tuesday morning continued into the afternoon rush hour.
Shortly after 6 a.m., a signal problem west of Whitby delayed commuters up to an hour as train service was cancelled between Oshawa and Ajax.
Around 4 p.m., GO Transit said the problem hadn’t been resolved and service would be hourly after 8 p.m.

“Most people ditch the car and try to jump on the GO to get a safer ride to work, and it hasn’t been a very good option this morning at all,” Amar Sodhi, a senior manager at CityNews who was stuck at Oshawa GO station in the morning, explained.
To make matters worse, due to the weather, no shuttle buses were available to pick up stranded passengers.
“It’s one thing if you’re on a cancelled train, but there’s no options for anybody that came here to sort of get to a GO train,” Sodhi said.
“They’re telling us to get on a Finch bus and try to get into Toronto somehow, but that’s not really a viable option.”
Just after 6:30 a.m., service was suspended east of the Scarborough GO station due to an unrelated police investigation.
