Snowy, slippery commute in GTA ahead of holiday break

By News staff and The Canadian Press

The first full day of winter is bringing in snow and may bring some freezing drizzle to the GTA on Friday.

Commuters across the region are experiencing a sloppy and slippery morning drive for the last day of school and work before the holiday break.

Several centimetres of snow fell in the GTA overnight and Environment Canada says another 2-4 centimetres could fall by the end of the day.

Areas outside of the GTA could get up to 10 centimetres of snow by this evening.

Christmas came early for several students in the GTA. School buses were cancelled for several school boards, including the Toronto and York Region school boards, but schools are open.

A special weather statement remains in effect for several areas of the province, including Toronto and the GTA. Environment there is a chance of freezing drizzle this evening.
